Rising 5’s  only for children starting school the following September

This specially focused day is for our children who are due to start primary school the following September. We aim to make the transition from pre-school to primary school as easy as possible for the children, we plan a range of activities around:

  • Familiarising the children with their future surrounding (e.g. having P.E kit, to practice getting changed and participating in a structured P.E lesson.
  • Encouraging the children to work together in groups.
  • Trips to Westonbirt and farm trips in order to encourage independence and the following instructions.
  • Mother’s Day afternoon tea & Father’s Day breakfast

 Sessions/Activities

Our children self-register with their name cards, and are immediately free to choose their own activity or toy from the selection available. Our outdoor play area is open as often as possible, in all weathers, and the children are free to choose indoor or outdoor play. Our new outdoor area includes generous space for ride-on toys, a planting garden, a drawing wall, a play shed and a quiet area.

We also offer small group time with a ratio of 1:5 children grouped together in their stages of development where we build upon their strengths and targets in their development, also friendship and SEN grouping.

We have regular ‘themes’ to extend the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world, which might include religious festivals, international traditions, local community and ‘about-me’ awareness.

Our snack bar opens at 10.00 a.m. where fresh and/or dried fruit, vegetables and healthy breakfast cereals are served. Cold milk is available at snack time, and drinking water is constantly available throughout the session.
